Mountain Bike Trail Work Days Coming Soon

Mountain Bike Trail Workers

Mountain Bike Trail Workers

Denton Parks and Recreation recently held an online informational meeting for individuals interested in helping to build Denton’s first official mountain bike trail. The trail will be near Clear Creek Heritage Center off of Hartlee Field Road and will rely heavily on volunteers to make it a reality.

City staff and a small number of volunteers have already flagged where the first 5.5 mile loop will go. The next step is to begin cutting the trail corridor, which is where large numbers of volunteers are needed.

Trail work days will consist primarily of pruning to clear the trails. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own pruning equipment, but only manual tools will be permitted. Regular volunteers will not be permitted to use power tools.

Volunteers will be able to sign up for trail work days when they are posted within the next week. To access the work day list and receive notification when it is posted, submit the interest form at the bottom of the City’s Volunteer webpage, selecting “Parks and Recreation Mountain Bike Trail Work Days.”

Residents of other cities may also submit a volunteer interest form. You are not required to be a Denton resident.

Work day shifts will be four hours long. Anyone who volunteers for at least 10 hours will receive a t-shirt.

City staff hope to get as much of the trail cleared as possible while critters and plants are dormant and the temperatures are cool. The speed of this process and whether it gets completed by the hot summer months will depend heavily on volunteer involvement.

Please sign up to help build Denton’s first official mountain bike trail!
